The 504 program is halfway through and has achieved many good results, mobilized large resources from the country and partly international resources while contributing to solving the consequences of landmines and UXO after the war.

According to Colonel Nguyen Van Nghiep, Vice President of the Vietnam Mine Action Center, the population from Binh Dinh and Quang Binh within the scope of KVMAP will get to use the entire local UXO-cleared land areas.

Colonel Do Xuan Hung, Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of Binh Dinh Provincial Military Command analyzed the Korean – Vietnam Mine Action Project has restored faith in the local community to produce and work, which contributed to the local socio-economic development as well as raising awareness on combating the threat of unexploded ordnance. The project as so helped affected victims in social integration, reducing the burden for the family and the community.

In the meeting with senior delegates from KVMAP, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh – Vice President of Binh Dinh People’s Committee affirmed the determination to have the project’s results contribute to the local prosperity and the safety of the community through proper usage of the transferred UXO cleared land.

During the business trip to Binh Dinh to conduct on-site supervision of the Korean – Vietnam Mine Action Project (KVMAP), senior executives including representatives of the Vietnam Mine Action Center (VNMAC), Mr. Cho Han-Deog – Country Director of KOICA Vietnam, Mrs. Caitlin Wiesen – UNDP Resident Representative and staffs of KVMAP visited the new community which was established on areas cleared of unexploded ordnance. The mission had the opportunity to talk to the community members.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Vice President of Phu Cat District People’s Committee, Binh Dinh Province remarked the initiation of the project has cleared a vast land area for the province and provided means of production for the community.

In Binh Dinh, specialised departments are actively implementing measures to reduce accidents from mines and explosives; freeing up part of the contaminated land and providing active support to landmine / UXO survivors.

As of June 2020, land in selected districts and communes in Quang Binh and Binh Dinh provinces has been surveyed and cleared for human development and local livelihoods.

By June 2020, the Survey and clearance process of the Korea-Vietnam Mine Action Project had achieved many results.

In the event of developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Vietnam - Korea cooperation project to overcome the consequences of bombs and mines after the last 6 months of 2020 will have many activities for the Survey and clearance component.
