The important indicators of UXO are: Ordnance constructed from various materials; Came from the different shape, sizes and color; Probability of explosion after years; Can still explode despite corrosion. Ordnance can still explode even in submerged condition after years.
Ordnance may also explode upon being disturbed or crushed by other objects and during transportation.
Risky behaviors such as swimming in previously bomb crater ponds, throwing rocks at UXO, searching, possessing and selling scrap from UXO, disassembly of UXO, observing the process of UXO disassembly. Upon the presence of “tthe Dangerous Explosives” warning sign, do not grass cutting, wood collecting, playing, fire starting or entering in the area.
To avoid UXO-related incidents: do not swim in ponds that were previously bombed craters, no throwing rocks at UXO, searching, possessing and selling UXO scraps as well as UXO disassembly should be strictly forbidden.
Do not observe UXO disassembly process, do not cut grass, cattle rearing or playing near UXO contaminated areas, do not start fire and enter areas with “Dangerous Explosives” warnings.
If you find UXO, keep away and notify local authorities. Do not enter former military facilities.
If you find yourself in a minefield by accident, remain still and scream for help. Keep out of minefields. Always follow a trail when passing an unfamiliar area.
The physical consequence of UXO-related incidents could be fatal injuries, permanent disability. The ability to take part in education, work and leisure of the victim will be negatively affected.
The economical consequence: High cost for treatment and rehabilitation, the victim will lose part of their income or their entire income.
The psychological consequence: the feeling of despair and pessimism, loneliness and discrimination.
Important warning signs of a UXO contaminated area: Dangerous Explosives signs, traces of a former battleground, areas with injured or dead animals caused by explosive materials.
