Recently, at the Preliminary Workshop on Integrating Mine Accident Prevention Education in the Primary and Secondary School Curriculum under the Korea-Vietnam Mine Action Project (KVMAP), the representative of the Vietnam National Mine Action Centre (VNMAC) said that after 6 years of implementation, the VNMAC has coordinated nationwide activities and obtained many clear results. This includes results that are all synchronised on the fields of technical survey and information management; clearance and cleaning of land contaminated with bombs and mines; supporting mine / UXO survivors to integrate into the community, scientific research and especially awareness raising for the community, gradually spreading to create a high effect in the community. This in turn will minimise accidents caused by mines and UXO and is crucial under conditions of the country when it is not yet able to immediately overcome the challenges that mines/UXO bring.
According to information from VNMAC, on the mine risk education component, in 2019 to ensure the development and implementation of the Education Plan for mine and UXO accidents in the districts where the project is in line with the current situation. VNMAC and UNDP have cooperated to organize workshops and consult relevant agencies in the two provinces of Quang Binh and Binh Dinh.
On that basis, the training contents were unified and included in the integrated mine / UXO prevention curriculum at the elementary and middle school levels in the 2019-2020 school year, on the basis of the taught materials in Quang Binh. The program has actively coordinated in organizing propaganda activities in the form of rally, parade; video; and pano to guarantee efficiency and effectiveness.
In 2020, VNMAC will continue to cooperate with 5 focal points, including: Military Executive Committee, Binh Dinh Department of Education and Training; Radio - Television, the Department of Education and Training, the Binh Dinh Cross. These points will continue to carry out raising awareness campaign and education activities to raise awareness on mine / UXO accidents for the community and elementary school students. Currently, the project is being implemented in 34 communes.
