Handover of decontaminated land after technical survey, phase I of mine clearance of KVMAP project

On the morning of October 20, in Binh Dinh, Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC), Korea International Cooperation Agency in Vietnam (KOICA Vietnam), United Nations Development Program in Vietnam (UNDP Vietnam) and Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee jointly organized the 1st phase of decontaminated land handover ceremony for the province of Binh Dinh.

This program is part of the Korea-Vietnam Mine Action Project (KVMAP) in Quang Binh and Binh Dinh provinces.

Attending the handover ceremony were the Military Command of Binh Dinh province, relevant departments and branches of Binh Dinh province, representatives of the People's Committees of relevant districts, representatives of the Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC), and representatives of KOICA Vietnam, UNDP Viet Nam and a large number of local people.

According to the information at the ceremony, hundreds of people in Binh Dinh were propagated to raise awareness about mines and UXO, and at the same time supported the pilot to support 2 victims with electric prosthetic hands and hundreds of mine victims supported with rehabilitation tools.

At the end of the first phase of the project, up to now, 16,880 ha of land has been technically produced, of which bombs and mines have been cleared on an area of more than 5,700 hectares of land.

After the handover ceremony, representatives of VNMAC, Mr. Cho Han Deog, Director of Korea International Cooperation Agency in Vietnam (KOICA Vietnam), Ms. Caitlin Wiesen, Representative of UNDP Vietnam, also paid a visit to the people in the areas that processed bombs, mines and explosives in Cat Nhon commune, Phu Cat district.

The current project KVMAP has surveyed, cleared, discovered, collected and cleared many types of mines and UXO in Quang Binh and Binh Dinh provinces to ensure absolute safety to help stabilize life and daily life of the local people.
