Vietnam is one of the countries most contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnances (UXO). It is estimated that more than 6.1 million hectares of land or 18.71% of Vietnam’s total area are contaminated with about 800,000 tonnes of bombs, mines and unexploded ordnances left from wars, which are scattered over all 63 cities and provinces in the country, with the central region the hardest hit.

In the morning of September 14, 2011, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Bomb and Mine Clearance Action Center (VBMAC), Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) in cooperation with the U.S Embassy, the Embassy of Norway in Hanoi organised a ceremony on announcement and handover of the project’s outcomes on building the information management data system for bomb and mine clearance action in Vietnam.
